Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School pupils, Ameera Allee, Shivali Sewcharran, Kashish Bhatt and Simran Sheik, will be taking part in the Engen Engine Restoration Challenge National Final competition on 1 May in Bloemfontein.
The challenge is hosted by the South African Federation of Vintage Tractors and Engine Clubs (SAVTEC). In November last year, the team presented their restored engine at the KZN Regional finals at the Baynesfield Tractor Club Open Day and progressed to the finals.
The pupils have been working on the refurbishment of an ancient air-cooled Wisconsin engine. The restoration process has been an opportunity for the team to explore their interests of mechanics and engineering as part of the Robotics Society.
At the finals, the team will be given a platform to showcase their hard work, by presenting their engine and being asked questions on its restoration process.
