The Engen Engine Restoration Challenge 2020 and six bright and curious learners from Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School have decided to take on the task. The learners have been given an old tractor engine from the Tractor Club at Baynesfield, in the hopes that they can repair and restore the rusty grease machine to original condition.
While picking apart the engine, under the supervisory eye of team mentor Mr Josef Moffet, the team not only has a chance to get their hands dirty, but also have the opportunity to learn about basic engine mechanics. The challenge also provides the girls with a space to conduct exciting science experiments and no doubt shows the importance of encouraging girls and the youth to get excited about engineering and robotics.
