GHS centenary 2020
Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High turned 100 years old on 4 August 2020. Looking back over the years GHS, as it is fondly called by many, has always been at the forefront of change and transformation. The school has excellent educators in the classrooms, and exceptional alumni who have gone out into the world, breaking boundaries and succeeding both nationally and internationally.
Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School is a dynamic environment, offering wonderful and diverse opportunities for the development of each individual. It is a proudly South African school, led by highly qualified and dedicated educators who guide learners to maintain a balance between their academic, sport and cultural endeavours. GHS believes that it is imperative to educate the future generation of female leaders in such a way that they can take their rightful places in society and be well-equipped trailblazers.
There is a strong sense of a ‘New Day’ at the school, of a community re-inspired, feeling pride and passion, and a desire for excellence, and our Centenary theme is: Reset. Rebuild. Reconnect. As part of its Centenary celebrations, therefore, the school is committed to resetting its prominence in the educational landscape. GHS remains committed to building and strengthening relationships with various stakeholders both internally and externally. Learners and staff are key players in rebuilding passion for and pride in the school. Another important goal is to reconnect with GHS alumni. Together we can all play our part in keeping our ‘green machine’ running smoothly for the next 100 years.
We will continue to remain committed to building and strengthening relationships with various stakeholders both internally and externally. Our learners and staff are key players in rebuilding passion for and pride in the school. We will also strive to rebuild strong and meaningful relationships with our parents, whom we value greatly. Together we can all play our part in keeping our “green machine” running smoothly for the next 100 years.
An important goal is to reconnect with our alumni. Over the years we have relied solely on reunion days to catch up with them; however, we now have a platform, AlumNet, where we encourage all our alumni to register. Here you will get the latest news from the school, hear about what other alumni are achieving in the world, and keep up to date with our events.
All this culminates in our Centenary theme; “Reset. Rebuild. Reconnect.”
