Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School peer counsellors held their annual awareness week at school. The theme for 2018 was ‘I Am Human’ with each day having a subtheme of a form of discrimination; gender and sexuality, religion and beliefs, disability, race and culture and socio-economic class.
Various discussions and debates were held with these themes in mind. On Thursday they were fortunate to have GHS old girl Dr Nomusa Shezi, the first black neurosurgeon in KwaZulu-Natal, as their guest speaker. She gave the pupils an inspiring talk about rising above the obstacles and discrimination and help contribute to changing.
At the talk were, on the photo above (from left) Fezeka Khanyile, Nolwazi Nkwanyana, Dr Nomusa Shezi, Hannah Brauteseth and Andrew Graaf (Principal).
