Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School hosted its annual Academic Awards Ceremony for its top achieving learners in Grade 8 to Grade 11 in 2019. Dr Sarah Dlamini, a past girl at GHS, came back to school 20 years after matriculating to share a strong and powerful message about hope. Dlamini is the Medical Registrar at King Edward Hospital in Durban.
The Catherine Morewood Memorial prize was awarded to Andiswa Mshengu and Keryn Thompson. This prize acknowledges two girls, voted for by their peers, according to the following criteria, they must be placed in the top 20 academically in Grade 11, and they must be leaners who are respected, admired and well-liked by their peers. Keryn is also the Deputy Head Prefect for 2020. They are pictured with Catherine Morewood’s parents, Chris and Denyse Morewood.
The Valerie Fowler Award for Excellence and Service was awarded to Paige Raw. This awarded acknowledges an exceptional learner, she must excel academically as well as on the sports field and/or in the cultural sphere. In additional she must show leadership potential and must be someone who gives herself in service to others. Paige is also the Head Prefect for 2020.
