Northern Cape High School from Kimberley was identified by the Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison to represent the province in the National PET (Participatory Educational Techniques) Competition. Learners across the country were required to identify problems regarding traffic in their area.
We identified 3, namely Minimal Parking Space, Poor Road Condition and an Unproclaimed Dirt Road. But when one looks at the problem, you ought to look for the solution too. And their solutions? Create Designated Parking Areas for Parents and Taxis, Improve the condition of the road, create two roundabouts to connect Hayston Road and Meyer Street to ease the flow of traffic, to improve the condition of the road, and to proclaim the dirt road!
We were also required to build models about the problems and solutions to those problems.
They also had to present a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation that included a drama. After sleepless nights and days of work, they finished 1st in South Africa in the Urban Category.
Die padbouspan: Cindy de Jonge,Ā Shamiel Paulse, Dyllen Clarke, Luqmaan Dawray en Liam Jacobs.
Congratulations to this team on this brilliant award!Ā
