KSA Elite League Championships. After a disappointing National Championships, by his standards, Galliano Boni was under pressure to perform at the KSA Elite League 1 Championships in Bloemfontein on the 10-13 April. Pumped up and determined, he did not disappoint. The long hours of training that he had put in the weeks before paid huge dividends, as he took Gold in both Kata and Kumite in a commanding fashion and, in the process, took over the number one ranking in South Africa.
His performance resulted in his selection to the South African team which will participate at the UFAK Region South Championships (All the SADEC Countries) on the 22-25 May in Durban and in the process has been awarded Protea colours for Karate in both Kata and Kumite divisions. A wonderful achievement adding to his Protea colours in Sports Martial Arts awarded in 2022 after his performance at the ISKA World Championships in Orlando, USA, where he became the first and only South African to ever win the Grand Champion trophy not once but twice at the same tournament.
The disappointments, challenges, and frustration experienced in 2024, least of all his horrific injuries are distant memories. His constant determination and never “give up” attitude has finally paid off in spectacular fashion. Given that Galliano trains all on his own with online coaching makes this achievement even more special.
The pride and love he has for his school have contributed to his drive to succeed. The Boy in Blue ensured that the name of St Andrew’s College remains number 1.
