schoolsthatrockHoofleier 2023. In ons reeks oor skole se hoofleiers vir 2023, gesels Schools That Rock met Irmari Oosthuizen. Irmari, Hoofdogter van Hoërskool Langenhoven, Riversdal, vir 2023, vertel ons meer van haarself en haar leierskap.
“In ‘n neutedop, ek is ‘n hokkiespeler, enkelkind en ‘n lid van die Voortrekkers. Dinge waaraan ek groot waarde heg is regverdigheid, vriendelikheid en om altyd jou prioriteite reg te hê. As Hoofdogter 2023, probeer ek om bereid te wees. Bereid om die regte ding te doen, bereid om te help en bereid om ‘n voorbeeld te wees.
My persoonlike doewitte vir 2023, is om my laaste jaar op hoërskool ten volle geniet. ‘n Doelwit vir my matriekjaar was nog altyd om my akademie op ‘n hoogtepunt af te sluit. Die grootste doelwit wat ek het is om elke ding wat ek doen met entoesiasme aan te pak en altyd my beste te gee, maak nie saak wat oor my pad kom nie.
As Hoofleier vir 2023 is my doelwitte vir Hoërskool Langenhoven gedurende my dienstermyn, is om by elke Das skooltrots te kweek. Ek is ook baie trots op Hoërskool Langenhoven. Ek wil ook seker maak dat ons skool ‘n plek is waar leerders veilig en gelukkig kan voel.
Uitdagings
Vir my was en is nog steeds beslis ‘n uitdaging om te moet kies tussen al die buitemuurse aktiwiteite wat die skool bied. Ek moet só kies sodat my akademie nie in die slag bly nie. As leerder was daar ook ander uitdagings soos byvoorbeeld Covid-19. Daardie uitdagings het definitief nie te doen met Hoërskool Langenhoven spesifiek nie.
Wat vir my die meeste uitstaan by ons skool, is die eenheid, soos net ‘n skool van ons grootte sal hê. Ons voel soos ‘n groot Das-familie en die ondersteuning onder mekaar is meeste van die tyd groot. Hier is elkeen definitief iemand. En by gesê, wat ook uitstaan vir my is die hoeveelheid unieke dinge wat jy net in ons skool sal vind. Jy sal dit net voel en verstaan as jy ‘n Das is.
My pa is beslis my mentor en die persoon na wie ek opsien. Meeste dinge wat ek sien as deel van my leierskap, soos regverdigheid, het ek by hom geleer. As ek raad nodig het is hy altyd daar met ‘n spreekwoord of net die regte stukkie raad.
Aangename kennis, ek is ‘n lepel. ‘n Lepel is veelsydig en dit is wat ek streef om te wees. Afhangende van die situasie waarin die lepel homself bevind. ‘n Lepel kan skep, meng en selfs in uiterste omstandighede sny. Byvoorbeeld om geleenthede aan te gryp(skep), te meng met ander mense en hulle te ondersteun en wanneer nodig, die verkeerde dinge wat oor my pad kom, uit te sny.
My vriende se beskrywing van my
Die meeste beskrywings wat ek al van my vriende ontvang het is dié van opregtheid, eerlikheid en dat ek realisties is. Party van hulle sê soms dat ek ‘n ding sê soos wat dit is. Ek is ook nie bang is om my eie pad te loop nie. En dan die beskrywing as “pliggie”, wat so hier en daar kop uitsteek omdat ek redelik taakgeoriënteerd kan wees.
“There is no right time, there is just time and what you choose to do with it”. Dit is my gunsteling aanhaling. Dit motiveer my om my ideale te bereik omdat dit my laat besef het dat die lewe te kort is om nie jou tyd te gebruik daarvoor nie. Dis bemoedigend om te weet dat ek nie hoef te wag vir die regte tyd om iets te doen nie, maar dat dit altyd die regte tyd is. Sekerlik my grootste motivering is die gedagte dat die Here my op die aarde geplaas het met ‘n doel. Daarom sal ek alles in my vermoë doen om nie net my eie ideale nie, maar ook daardie doel, wat dit ook al mag wees, te bereik.
Ek voel dat elke onderwyser ‘n positiewe impak op my het. Sover kon ek iets by elkeen leer en daarom, alhoewel ek sommige beter ken as ander, wil ek niemand uitsonder nie.
My toekoms-ideale is om in die toekoms te kan sê ek is gelukkig in my werk of studies en ook my persoonlike verhoudinge. Ek sal graag standvastig wil wees in wat ek doen en blom waar ek geplant is. Direk na skool sal ek definitief tersiêre onderrig wil ontvang by ‘n instansie in Suid-Afrika en dan ook hier wil werk.
Head Girls 2023
In our series on schools’ Head Girls for 2023, Schools That Rock talks to Irmari Oosthuizen. Irmari, Head Girl of Langenhoven High School, Riversdale, for 2023, tells us more about herself and her leadership.
“In a nutshell, I am a hockey player, single child and a member of the Voortrekkers. Things I value greatly are fairness, kindness and always having your priorities right. As Head Girl 2023, I try to be willing. Willing to do the right thing, willing to help and willing to be an example.
My personal potion for 2023, is to fully enjoy my last year of high school. A goal for my matric year has always been to end my academics on a high. The biggest goal I have is to tackle every single thing I do with enthusiasm and always give my best, no matter what comes my way.
My goals for Langenhoven High School during my tenure are to cultivate school pride at every Das. I am also very proud of Langenhoven High School. I also want to make sure that our school is a place where learners can feel safe and happy.
Challenges
For me, it was and still is definitely a challenge to have to choose between all the extracurricular activities the school has to offer. I have to choose this way so that my academics don’t stay put. As a learner there were other challenges such as Covid-19. Those challenges definitely don’t have to do with Langenhoven High School specifically.
What stands out most to me at our school is the unit, as only a school of our size will have. We feel like a big Das family and the support among ourselves is huge most of the time. Here, each is definitely someone. And by said, what also stands out to me is the amount of unique things you’ll just find in our school. You’ll only feel and understand it if you’re a Badger.
My father is definitely my mentor and the person I look up to. Most things I see as part of my leadership, like fairness, I learned from him. When I need advice, he’s always there with a proverb or just the right piece of advice.
Good day, I am a spoon. A spoon is versatile and that’s what I aspire to be. Depending on the situation in which the spoon finds itself. A spoon can scoop, mix, and even cut in extreme conditions. For example, seizing (creating) opportunities, mingling with other people and supporting them and when necessary, cutting out the wrong things that come my way.
What my friends think of me
Most of the descriptions about myself I have received from my friends are those of sincerity, honesty and that I am realistic. Some of them sometimes say that I say a thing as it is. I’m also not afraid to go my own way. And then the description as “dude”, which pops up here and there because I can be pretty task oriented.
“There is no right time, there is just time and what you choose to do with it”. This is my favorite quote. It motivates me to achieve my igoals because it made me realize that life is too short not to use your time for it. It’s encouraging to know that I don’t have to wait for the right time to do something, but that it’s always the right time. Certainly, my greatest motivation is the thought that the Lord has put me on earth with a purpose. Therefore, I will do everything in my power to achieve not only my own goals, but also that goal, whatever it may be.
I feel like every teacher has a positive impact on me. So far I have been able to learn something from each and therefore, although I know some better than others, I do not want to single anyone out.
My future goals are to be able to say in the future that I am happy in my work or studies and also my personal relationships. I would love to be steadfast in what I do and bloom where I am planted. Right after school, I would like to receive tertiary education at an institution in South Africa and then also work here.
