Head of School 2026 – Hilton College delighted

Head of School 2026. Meet the Head of School for 2026 – James Peattie.

“My name is James Peattie, and I am deeply honoured to serve as Head of School for 2026. I also feel truly blessed to step into this role and will strive to follow in the footsteps of our esteemed former Head, Shaka Buthelezi.

I grew up in Pretoria and began my schooling at Midstream College Primary. Reflecting on my journey at Hilton, one word comes to mind: opportunity. Since driving through the McKenzie Gates as a Grade 8 boy, I have been privileged to experience the richness of Hilton’s history and traditions. This school offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance for boys to grow, learn, and discover themselves. It is through diverse sporting codes, academic challenges, and cultural pursuits.

Leaders create more leaders

It is often said that great leaders create more leaders, not followers. Hilton embodies this truth. Here, every boy is also encouraged to lead, often without even realizing it. Our 2022 leaders, Thomas Roy and Olwethu Kweyama, laid a strong foundation for the Matrics of 2026. They remind us with their powerful message: “Home is not a place, it’s a feeling.” Their legacy inspires us to continue Hilton’s proud 154-year tradition.

As Head of School, my goal for 2026 is to ensure that every Hilton boy makes the most of the opportunities before him. Hilton is not only for the overachievers, the scholars, or the exceptional sportsmen. It is for the quiet boy who struggles with speeches but cheers passionately for the ‘white’ every Saturday. It is for the boy who plays 7th team rugby. Yet he sparks meaningful conversations in the classroom. It is for the boy who wants to make his family proud.

Hilton is a place for everyone. My message to each boy is simple: embrace this opportunity.
