Head Girls 2023. In our series on schools’ head leaders for 2023 Schools That Rock chat to Skye Sutherland-Clark. Skye, Head Girl for 2023 of Hans Moore High School, Benoni, tells us more about herself and her leadership.
“Leadership is not a title for me, it is about serving. I feel that God has put me in this position for a reason and that he has a plan for my life. As head Girl for 2023, I want to serve my school and fellow learners and am really excited to work with the RCL next year.
My personal goal after matric is to study Occupational Therapy at the University of Pretoria.
My goals for Hans Moore High School during my term of service, is to help mould a RCL group who is respected and effective. Futhrmore, building a culture of servers. It is important to me, and I want to pass on the few lives lessons that I have learnt so far.
The biggest challenge I have faced at Hans Moore, is balancing all my extra curriculars as well as my academics. I cannot do something only halfway or half-heartedly. So it has been a challenge knowing when to step back from something as I want to take part in everything. My future is very important to me. So it has been a challenge making sure that my extra curriculars do not affect my academics.
The respect we have for one another at Hans Moore High School stands out to me. Whether it is greeting a teacher or learner on the corridor or different cultures coming together, respect is a big part of our school.
Caitlin Shaw
Our Head Girl for 2022, Caitlin Shaw, is my inspiration. I am amazed at what she has achieved this year. Also at the way she carries herself, with humility, kindness and encouragement to others.
Should you happened to be a kitchen article, what are you and why? If you asked my mom, she would say I am a blender. I make a lot of noise, but I think it’s because I make the most of every situation.
My friends call me “Mother Hen” as they say I am responsible, caring, organised and always have tissues with me.
What motivates me to achieve my goals? I want to be able to look back on my life one day, be able to say that I achieved everything I wanted to and that I also enjoyed my life!
As head girl for 2023,I would advise learners to also become part of our school, because Hans Moore’s values are at the core of everything we do. At Hans Moore, we also learn that we are winners as long as we give our best.
I don’t think I have only one favourite teacher. I love Mr Kemp’s sense of humour and Mrs Hogan’s caring heart. Ms Openshaw’s sarcasm causes me to also love her and the fact that Mrs Kemp is always there for us.
My future goals are to receive my degree in Occupational Therapy. I also want to travel along South Africa’s coastline with a surfboard Furthermore start a family of my own and one day own my own Occupational Therapy practice that is successful enough to offer pro bono sessions for those in need.”
