Head Girl 2024. Like in previous years, Schools That Rock interviewed Head Leaders of Schools in South Africa. Our next candidate is Lea Annabella Hall, Head Girl 2024 of Curro Westbrook, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Please note that Lea Annabella Hall is in Grade 7 and not Grade 11. We made an exception for her.
Lea Annabella, tell us more about yourself and your leadership.
- My name is Lea Annabella Hall and I am currently 12 turning 13 in April. I have many passions, like animals, music, children and Art, but my personal favourite is music and animals. I hope my leadership in Curro Westbrook will inspire more people to always do there best, even in the darkest times. My leadership role is also to help my team-mates and friends on there journey in being a prefect and on my own to help children and kids feel loved and cared for the way the teachers made me feel when I joined the school.
What are your personal goals for this year?
- My personal goals for next year is to get a certificate in grade 5 piano theory and to go to grade 7 piano.
Tell us more about your goals for Curro Sagewood during your term of service?
- As Head Girl 2024, my goal in the prefect body is to leave the primary school with the best year of prefects. I also want to show everyone what great team work makes. For myself it is to know that I have set the bar very high for the next generations of prefects to follow in all of our foot steps and make the school proud every year. Also to leave the school and the next generation of prefects with hopes and dreams.
What were the biggest challenges you experienced as a learner of your school?
- My biggest challenges is children thinking they are older than their actual age. And also the the staff not always communicating with the parents.
What stands out most to you at Curro Westbrook?
- The amazing staff. There are always smiles on everyone faces and everyone always being the friendliest they can be.
Who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?
- I look up to my mom, because even in the worst times, she got through it over and over. She never gives up, she also always stands up for what right and does not back down when things don’t go right.
Lea Annabella, you’re a kitchen article? What are you and why?
- If I could be a kitchen article then I would be a toaster, because I am always willing to pop around and help out where ever I can.
How would your friends describe you?
- My friends always say I am smart, silly and weird, but mostly that I am the mother of our group, because I am always watching out for everyone and helping everyone. Whatever they need, I would tell if they would come up with a silly idea.
Why would you advise learners to also become part of Curro Sagewood ?
- Curro Westbrook is a wonderful school and I love it. The teachers and the principal, Mrs. van der Merwe, are always planning something wonder full for us to do. Whether it is an outing or a swimming day or an outside day, they are always planning something for us to do.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
- I have two very special teachers who are very close to me. The one is Mrs. Noah. I have known her for seven years and I loved every minute that she taught me. She believed in me and motivated me in my music career and never gave up on me with my scales and terrible sight reading. The other teacher is Mrs. Ronander, I only know her for two years, but it was the best two years ever. She helped me in the darkest days and also helped me find God. She feels like a mother, a school mother to me and I hope that she will never forget me.
What are your future goals?
- My future goals are to be a prefect in high school, complete the entire grade system in piano and to become a vet for all kinds of animals.
