Head Boy 2026. Meet Matthew Joubert, Head Boy for 2026.
“My name is Matthew Joubert. I am incredibly honoured and grateful to have been selected as Head Boy of the world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School for 2026.
I joined Drakies halfway through 2023. I came from Laerskool Fairland, and from my very first day I was welcomed with open arms. This school quickly became more than just a place of learning – it became my home. The camaraderie, music, Christian principles, and the values we live by have shaped me in ways I never imagined. As King Solomon writes in Proverbs 16 verse 9, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”.
Looking ahead to 2026, my vision is to ensure we continue using music as our ministry. I also want to bring hope and encouragement to South Africa and beyond! Authentic leadership also means serving others. Leading with honesty, standing up for what is right, and being someone my brothers can trust. I will do it on and off the stage as well as in and out of the classroom.
Drakies
At Drakies, we constantly refer to “the brotherhood.” I want to continue building a school culture where every boy feels valued, supported, and proud to wear the Drakie uniform. I also look forward to welcoming and working with the new boys of 2026. You have made one of the best decisions of your life!
Thank you to my peers for believing in me and trusting me with this responsibility. I also thank the staff for your guidance, mentorship, and constant support. I am genuinely grateful and humbled by this opportunity. Last, but not least, I thank my parents and family for instilling a Godly foundation in my life. Also, for teaching me to always put the Lord first in everything I do.
