Head Boy 2025 – Grantleigh College

Head Boy 2025. Every year, schoolsthatrock chat to the Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa. Today we learn more about of Ruan Loubser, Head Boy 2025 of Grantleigh College, Richards Bay, KwaZulu Natal.

“For me as Head Boy 2025, I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing the legacy the year before has left behind. It is the respect and family orientation we have at our school.

A few of my personal goals are to firstly, not change. I want to embrace the opportunity I have been granted but not let it get to my head and lose myself in the process. I want to essentially stay grounded and humble with all these new privileges I’ve been granted. Secondly, I want to be a person who the students of Grantleigh can look up to. I also want to be an example and inspiration for the students.

Last, but not least, I want to be present and take each day at a time. Enjoying the year as it is rumoured to be done in the blink of an eye. Goals for my school would be to continue the friendly family environment. It is for students to feel like Grantleigh is their home away from home. Furthermore to continue to be a value orientated school which values respect and integrity. It has to build students that can one day become leaders.

Qualities of our school

The qualities of our school are respect, diligence, and perseverance. These values are engraved into every student and are displayed with the way that the students behave.

Yes, there are a few things I would like to change at our school. I want to see my school to widen the sports and culture exposure to other opponents and events. For example, implementing more fixtures against schools from different regions of KZN.

Persuade someone to make my school their choice? I wouldn’t exactly persuade them. I would just tell them about how Grantleigh has some of the best facilities in the whole area of Zululand and the number of extremely qualified teachers teaching at Grantleigh. Grantleigh has more than enough options for students to come and choose whatever they feel they want to pursue.

Leadership trait

I would say my strongest leadership trait is collaboration, the way I can connect with people through my enthusiastic influence.

I get collaboration from my team by treating them how I want to be treated. By showing the respect they deserve, I will get the same in return thus the commitment would be there as my team would respect what I and fellow Head Girl have planned. My team would work to complete its due to the fact that even though I am Head Boy, I treat my team as we are equal due to the fact that I think we are. That ensure that the commitment which is required is obtained.

The person I look up to most is our past Head Boy, Levashan Raidoo. He is someone who is always there for you when you need him. He would always have a smile on his face and he lived with the loerie inside him.
I am daydreaming about playing beautiful golf courses all over the country after finals as well as the views I will be able to see when playing these courses.

My favourite dish at the moment is calamari and chips.

Next year I want to study industrial engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.
