The Glenwood first team water polo travelled to Northwood to take on the Grey College first team in a friendly on Friday. The game was a tightly contested affair between two fit and fast teams. Goals were hard to come by in the first half of the game with Grey scoring a penalty and Glenwood scoring a lucky goal after an error by Greys goalkeeper when he passed the ball directly to A. van Rooyen who put it into the open goal.
The last two chukkas were extremely physical but the Glenwood boys kept cool heads and created a lot of scoring opportunities, some fantastic goalkeeping by Grey kept us out. The deadlock was finally broken by some good extra man passing which opened up D. Messitter-Tooze on the post and he put the ball passed the Grey keeper from close range.
Our third and final was almost exactly the same but this time it was D. Kirkbride who found himself open on the post and superbly finished the move off from the 2m. The game ended 3-1 in favour of Glenwood, a hard fought and well deserved victory.
