Saturday 24 June 2017 saw the Umlazi District Finals of the prestigious Copa Coca Cola U15 Tournament. There was a lot at stake with only the winner proceeding to the Provincial finals in August.

The tournament went very much as planned in the opening two games of the pool, with Glenwood High School from Durban, running out comfortable 3-0 and 3-1 winners against Umlazi Com Tech and Phakathi Secondary respectively.

The final group game against Masibambane Secondary became a virtual semi-final with this game securing their spot in the final and the loser going home. After taking an early lead Glenwood conceded twice quickly and with only 5 minutes remaining, were heading out, unless they could score twice. The true colours of the Green Machine came flying through as, with great courage and mental strength they would go onto score 4 times in the space of 5 minutes, all from the boot of Kale Mwamba, to win the game 5-2 and progress to the final.

The final was a very one sided affair with Glenwood dominating territory and possession, however it seemed the long day of football had taking its toll and the boys just could not find the energy to apply the finishing touches. The game ended 0-0 and would be decided on penalties.  GLENWOOD SOCCER 1

Having hardly touched the ball in regulation time it was Siya Khumalo, the goal keeper, who would be the hero of the day saving 3 penalties and allowing the Green Machine to roll onto the Provincial finals.
