Glenwood vs DRC JSS (5-0)
In our first game we started very well and we had scored 5 goals before the end of the first half. A brace from Aluncendo Mavovana and a goal apiece for Kale Mwamba, Siyathokoza Mzobe and Jayden Prinsloo insured the victory for us. With our next fixture scheduled to start straight after the team took the foot of the pedal to save energy for the next match.
Glenwood vs Lower Tugela (2-0)
The winner of this match was to go through to the semi-final. Goals from Ntuthuko Khumalo and Siphesihle Zungu ensured that the team would play in the semis. Even though the boys only scored 2 goals in the game, the result was never in doubt.
Semi Final
Glenwood vs Tholithemba Secondary (0-0)(5-4)
This was the toughest game of the tournament. We struggled to play our game style which played right into the opposition’s hand. We created many half chances which we were not able to take advantage of. A few good saves from our goalkeeper Siyanda Khumalo kept us in the game. The game was to go to penalties. We were well prepared as we had spent lots of time working on them. We won 5-4 and were happy to come out of that as the winners.
Final
Glenwood vs Muthazwa Secondary (2-1)
We started the game very strong dominating possession especially in the middle of the park. Our full backs were overlapping at every opportunity their got. A run down the left hand side led to our first goal as Jesse Naidoo crossed the ball for Kale Mwamba to score our first goal of the match. We conceded a goal from a free kick to allow the other school to equalise. This was the first goal we had conceded in the whole tournament. When Jayden scored our second goal of the match it was only a matter of few minutes before the ref blew the final whistle. A well organised defensive unit led by Siphesihle Zungu and Rijul Pillay made sure we held on to be crowned KZN McDonals champions for the first time.
Goalkeeper of the Tournament
Well done to Siyanda Khumalo who only conceded 1 goal in the whole tournament. Siyanda walked away with the goalkeeper of the tournament.
Player of the Tournament
Well done to Jayden Prinsloo who was simply outstanding in the middle of the field. A player who works hard for the team. Jayden also has great vision on the ball. Jayden has what very few kids have for his age. He’s understanding of the game is what makes him stand out from other players. Well deserved.
Well done to all the 16 boys that were involved on the day and the whole tour. A great spirit when we left to the day we came back Sunday afternoon. I cannot thank the parents enough for the support they showed the boys and the coaching staff. I look forward to seeing them at nationals.
