Kaylan Govender has been selected for two SSA National Squads this year: the SSA Open Water National Junior Squad and the SSA Pool Junior Squad.
Earlier this year he was part of the KZN Open Water Team where he had the opportunity to participate in the SA Open Water Nationals at Marina Martinique, Jefferies Bay.
Kaylan started open water swimming at the tender age of 9 years, when he swam and completed his first Midmar Mile. He has come a long way since then, competing in longer distances, such as the 3 km and 5 km events, topping his age group in both distances.
His first inclusion in the SSA Open Water National Junior Squad was in 2019, when he was fortunate to tour Slovenia and participated in the Austrian Cup 5 km event. Last year he was also selected for the KZN Schools Squad.
Kaylan is also a pool swimming, enjoying longer distances such as the 400 m and 1 500 m freestyle. Last year saw him achieving a South African National Junior time in the 400 m freestyle in his age group.
Kaylan loves swimming in the ocean and he is a lifeguard in training.
