The Top Ten Water Polo Tournament was held across Durban this weekend from 13-15 October 2017. Glenwood U14A, U15A and U19A teams represented at the tournament. The U14 team played at Westville and the U15 team played at Northwood, both teams finished 9th on the log. The 1st team U19A age group competed at Clifton and were defending their title from 2016. They played their pool games against Northwood beating them 4-2 on Friday night. On Saturday they played their remaining pool games with wins against Kearsney College of 8-4, Hilton 7-1 and Thomas Moore College 11-2. This took them into the Semi Finals on Sunday morning.
They faced Westville in the Semi Final and although a tense game, had a comfortable win of 6-0 taking them into the final. Hilton beat hosts Clifton in the 2nd Semi Final which meant that Glenwood would once again face Hilton College at the tournament in the Finals. The Hilton team were very formidable opponents and definitely brought their A-game to the Final. They were intent on winning but the Glenwood team fought hard to retain their title. The game was intense and the keepers were kept on their toes having to field multiple attempts at goals from both sides.
Glenwood keeper Alex Van Rooyen made some phenomenal saves throughout the game and the Glenwood 1st team beat Hilton 2-1, retaining their title and winning the Top Ten Tournament for the U19 division.
