Football season opener.
St Charles College hosted Hilton College on Colts field last Saturday morning. It was a perfect day, weather-wise, for the two teams to showcase their 1st teams in the football season opener.
Both teams looked nervous in the opening exchanges and basic errors were very prominent during the first ten minutes. Hilton settled quicker and made it 1 – 0 with a well-worked goal. With confidence growing, the Saints evened out the score when Nathan Beaumont side-footed from the near post.In the second half, both teams found rhythm and tempo. St Charles College won a corner kick, which Tahir Khonat made no mistake with a solid header at the far post.
The Saints had taken control of the match and should have gone further ahead, with golden opportunities and one-on-ones with the keeper. With time running out, Hilton College won a free-kick, and a header far post across the goal saw a scrambled equaliser and the match ending in a 2 – 2 draw.
Both teams look forward to tomorrow, where the visitors host the ‘KZN Top Ten’ football tournament. – Mr Gary Ritchie
