Dramatic Arts. The Paarl Boys’ High Dramatic Arts department’s Film Society has grown immensely since last year. The Film Society is accessible to all learners by being technically involved in cinematography, production and wardrobe design, screenwriting, acting, film directing and editing.
This year the Film Society participated in the FILMIT competition organized by Paul Roos. A record number of pitches were entered. Five of Boys’ High pitches were accepted and five films were made in the different genres. These films were done mostly by junior learners who had very limited resources.
The Dramatic Arts Film Society was nominated in 15 categories, amongst others best graphic design, best wardrobe, best production design, best music editing, best actor and actress, best ensemble work, best documentary, and best film.
On the 10th of November they were very excited to receive the following awards:
“Keys are just black and white” ( a documentary about Mike Wang) received awards for:
- Best documentary and best editor for a documentary or other film
The film “say cheese” received:
- Best editorfor a short film
- Best wardrobe
- Best music editor
- Best production design
- Best ensemble
- A special Jury certificate for the screenwriter
“I am sure this amazing honour and special FILMIT evening will inspire many other students to take part in developing their skills in the fast-growing film industry.”
