Dads and Lads event. ☀️ Cricket, Cheers, and Childhood Memories – “Bats, Balls & Big Smiles!”
The Saints Oval was buzzing with excitement on Saturday morning as our Grade 2 boys laced up for their final Dads and Lads cricket adventure. The sun shone brightly over Pietermaritzburg, but it was the smiles, high-fives, and bursts of laughter that truly lit up the field.
From the very first ball bowled, it was clear this wasn’t just about cricket. It was about dads diving for catches (sometimes spectacularly, sometimes not!), boys showing off their growing skills, and families cheering every run as if it were a World Cup final. The oval became a stage for playful competition, joyful noise, and memories stitched together in the spirit of sport.
As the innings rolled on, confidence bloomed. The boys swung their bats with pride, bowled with determination, and celebrated every wicket with gleeful shouts. The dads, meanwhile, proved that enthusiasm often beats technique — and that laughter is the best scoreboard of all.
This was more than a match. It was a farewell to Junior Primary sport, a chapter closing with sunshine and smiles before the boys step boldly into Prep sport next year.
Mr Joel Barron summed it up best: “It was heart-warming to see the boys’ progress and the joy shared amongst families.”
“To our families — thank you for every cheer, every clap, and every ounce of support. The journey continues, but this day will always be remembered as one where cricket was more than a game; it was a celebration of growing up, together.”
