Curro Jewel City. South African JSE-listed independent school provider Curro Holdings, is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Mr Lawrence Manyesa as Head of School for Curro Jewel City in Johannesburg, effective 1 April 2023.
Mr Manyesa is a seasoned teacher, with 20 years of experience in education. He also has over a decade’s worth of secondary school leadership experience under his belt. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Communication Studies (Zimbabwe Open University, Harare). Furthemore he has a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Management College of South Africa (MANCOSA) as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Managenent (Zimbabwe Open University, Harare). Mr Manyesa also obtained a Instructional Leadership Programme (Instructional Leadership Institute, Cape Town) and a Certificate in Unlocking Potential Through The Power of Full Engagement (North-West University, Potchefstroom).
Mr Manyesa taught at several schools before joining the LEAP Science and Maths schools initially as a teacher. While at LEAP, he rose through the positions of Head of Department, Relationship Leader (LEAP Diepsloot), School Leader (LEAP Pretoria), and consequently, School Network Leader, leading the six LEAP schools across the country.
Vuleka SSB High School
In his most recent position as headmaster of Vuleka SSB High School in Johannesburg, Mr Manyesa was instrumental in improving the results of Grade 12 learners from 94% to 97% in 2020 and then to a fantastic 98.2% in 2021. He has also implemented successful mentorship programmes at Bridge Innovation in Learning, mentoring principals at five schools in Benoni, Johannesburg.
Mr Manyesa is excited and determined to hit the ground running and has ambitious plans for the young school. “My vision is to grow Curro Jewel City into an excellent school that has high expectations of its teachers and has students who are open to change and always striving for excellence,” he says.
The devoted father of three is especially attracted to the fast-paced growth and diversity of Curro as well as its holistic approach to learning and development. Looking ahead he is especially eager to play a commanding role in the growth of Curro Jewel City. The school will have its first matric class in 2024.
