Curro Holdings. Curro Holdings, the South African JSE-listed independent education provider is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Ruan Beukes as the new head of school for Curro Delft, effective 1 July 2022.
Originally from South Africa, Beukes has previously crafted a distinguished teaching legacy in the United Kingdom. He was assistant head at Brakenhale School in London for the past five years. Having relocated back home to the Western Cape, he is now determined to positively contribute not only to the local education system but also to South Africa’s wider society and her diverse communities.
His innovative teaching and leadership approach, coupled with his international experience and a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning from the University of Reading, makes him a fantastic fit for Curro Delft. Delft is one of four schools that fall under Curro’s DigiEd umbrella. These technology-driven schools offer a progressive curriculum that places greater emphasis on crucial 21st-century subjects like mathematics, science, robotics, and coding.
Expanding township community
Curro Delft is located in the heart of a rapidly expanding township community on the outskirts of Cape Town. The school provides fresh, yet flexible teaching methods. Teaching methods such as giving each learner their own dedicated device, incorporating videos and e-learning in class and increasing the school day. Furthermore the school eliminates homework so that learning is more accessible and enjoyable. “The growth of Curro Delft is a testament to the success of the DigiEd model and the increasing demand for innovative schooling. This will equip South Africa’s youth with the essential skills required to navigate the fourth industrial revolution. This is one of the best ways of moulding our learners into the future leaders of the country,” says Beukes.
Beukes has big ambitions for the school. He also aims to leverage his extensive leadership experience in both primary and high school environments. It is to spearhead future development, while staying true to Curro’s values and traditions. “My teaching and leadership philosophy is one of leadership through service. I am a firm believer in striving to build positive relationships and investing one’s passion and commitment into the community you are serving. I am looking forward to putting my proven experience in educational change through academic and behavioural reform within a large secondary school setting to good use,” he adds.
Sports Science
Beukes also holds an Advanced Diploma in Sports Science and Management from Northlink College. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He is an avid lover of the great outdoors, he was also made a Second Lieutenant in the Cadet Services of the British Army as part of his Queen’s Commission which also helped to mould his leadership style that places a huge emphasis on developing and instilling teamwork, resilience, and confidence in young people, both in and outside of the classroom.
Beukes will take over the reins from the school’s founding Executive Head, Mr. Phil Snyman. Mr Snyman has held various leadership roles within the Curro Group over the last 19 years. Snyman is moving to a new permanent role as New Business Development Manager for Curro Digital Learning. He was doing this role part-time since 2021.
