Biathle/Triathle World Championships. UIPM 2025 Biathle/Triathle World Championships.
Mossel Bay, South Africa | 08–10 December 2025.
Mossel Bay welcomed athletes from 34 nations to the breathtaking Southern Cape coastline for the UIPM 2025 Biathle/Triathle World Championships. With pristine beaches and ideal trail conditions, the venue offered the perfect stage for three days of world-class competition.
The championships featured racing across all UIPM age categories — from U9 through to Masters 70+. It thrilled spectators with tightly contested heats, dramatic sprint finishes, and inspiring displays of endurance. Despite the exceptionally high international standard, Team South Africa shone brightly. The team delivered some of the most commanding performances of the event, underscoring the depth of local talent.
Zac Fletcher’s Triple Gold Triumph
Among the standout performances was Zac Fletcher. He stormed to victory in the U19 Male Biathle World Title with an exceptional time of 07:26.40.
Remarkably, Zac’s triumph also came just days after competing in the Boat Race rowing regatta (5–6 December). Despite the physical demands of elite rowing, he produced a composed and powerful run–swim–run performance, maintaining superb form throughout. His explosive final surge was a testament to both his grit and conditioning.
Zac’s momentum carried into the U19 Mixed Biathle Relay, where he partnered with Megan Kleynhans. Together, they also delivered a polished, commanding race, securing gold in 12:58.50. They finished comfortably ahead of their closest Greek challengers. Their seamless transitions, strategic pacing, and teamwork indeed ensured South Africa’s dominance.
ZAC’s third gold came in the team event, awarded to nations with three finishers in the top 10. South Africa clinched gold, with India taking silver. This result highlights the strength and consistency of the national squad across age groups.
A Year Crowned with Protea Colours
Adding to the significance of his achievements, Zac was awarded his Protea Colours. It is a milestone that crowns an extraordinary year and reflects his dedication, versatility, and excellence across multiple sporting codes.
