Basketball Top 10 Tournament. Kearsney College Basketball Report.
This past weekend marked the launch of the pilot KZN Schools Top 10 Basketball Tournament, featuring the province’s ten strongest basketball-playing schools. The event was widely regarded as one of the toughest schoolboy competitions in South Africa, with matches contested across four age-group categories, each hosted at its own indoor venue.
Kearsney College delivered impressive performances across all divisions:
- U19 (1st Team): Finished second overall.
- Beat Maritzburg College 60–56
- Narrowly lost to DHS 63–64
- Defeated Glenwood 58–27
- Overpowered Michaelhouse 54–43
- Won their semi-final against St Charles 70–43
- Fell short in the final against Maritzburg College 37–78, who reaffirmed their dominance as KZN’s leading schoolboy basketball team.
- U16: Finished in fifth place.
- U15 & U14: Both secured sixth-place finishes.
With consistent results across all age groups, Kearsney achieved a commendable fourth place overall in the tournament standings.
This inaugural competition showcased the depth of talent in KZN schoolboy basketball and provided an exciting conclusion to the season. It is certain to strengthen the sport further and inspire future growth across the province.
