Basketball. Last weekend saw St Charles College travelling up the hill to take on Michaelhouse. St Charles College, having won their previous encounter, looked to win on a tricky away court while Michaelhouse looked to redeem their previous basketball defeat.
With Michaelhouse down an important player due to injury, the Saints implemented a tight zone defence, forcing the home team to rely on outside shooting. The idea was to force contested shots from a distance and then rely on transition offence to score some easy baskets. In practice, this philosophy seems simple; however, Michaelhouse caused issues in the first period with aggressive offensive rebounding which put the visitors under pressure. St Charles College managed to fix their rebounding issues in the second period, and this saw their lead starting to open. While Michaelhouse made some good runs, the visitors were able to open a comfortable lead and then rotate their players to ensure they were always fresh.
St Charles College went on to win the game 64 – 45.
