Basketball. In a competitive fixture between Kearsney College (KZN) and Westville Boys’ High, spectators were treated to a game of contrasting momentum and strategic execution. Despite flashes of promise from Kearsney, Westville’s early dominance and disciplined ball movement ultimately secured them a hard-fought victory.
🔹 First Half: Westville Sets the Tone
Kearsney began the game on the back foot, struggling to find their offensive rhythm despite creating decent shooting opportunities. Westville, on the other hand, came out firing, capitalizing on the absence of a shot clock to patiently work the ball and disrupt Kearsney’s defensive efforts. By the end of the first quarter, Westville had built a solid 17–9 lead.
The second quarter saw both teams tighten up defensively, with scoring opportunities becoming scarce. Neither side managed to score more than eight points, and the half-time score stood at 25–17 in Westville’s favour.
🔹 Third Quarter: Westville Extends the Lead
After the break, Westville rediscovered their offensive rhythm, putting up 20 points in the third quarter. Kearsney showed resilience, narrowing the gap to just three points at one stage, but couldn’t sustain the momentum. Westville responded swiftly, rebuilding their lead and ending the quarter ahead 45–28.
🔹 Final Quarter: Kearsney’s Late Surge Falls Short
Kearsney ramped up their defensive intensity in the final quarter, managing to level the score briefly and restrict Westville to just six points. However, the early damage proved too much to overcome. Despite a spirited comeback, Kearsney fell short, with the final score reading 51–44 in favor of Westville.
