Bantwana. Camps Bay High School’s soccer superstar, Daniella Segall in Grade 11, is back from Ethiopia. Daniella was part of the SA U17 Girls Soccer Team, known as the Bantwana. The team took on Ethiopia in their second FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying match.
Playing their first match on international soil, in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, the Bantwana won their match 1-0.
Daniella was also part of the team that took on Ethiopia in their first qualifying match in Johannesburg a couple of weeks ago. This was the first international match that all the girls in the SA team had played. It was also their first match as a team. They fought hard against the more experienced Ethiopian team but unfortunately, some defensive errors, saw them go down 3-0.
This means that, based on goal differences between the first and second qualifiers, the Bantwana are out of the World Cup however we know that this is only the beginning of the road for many of them, including Camps Bay’s star player, Daniella Segall.
