Alice: The Musical. Last week Curro Durbanville High School was proud to present the first large-scale original production, Alice – The Musical, on their new campus. Almost 350 learners were involved in all facets of the production. The production was written by two educators, Lize-Meri Amann and Deon van Zyl. Each part was specifically written for each cast member.
Alice (Sanah Healey) is a teenage girl who feels invisible and insignificant. She has lost all faith in herself and is dissatisfied with life in general. Then, one day, she encounters a talking rabbit (Megan Naude), who is always in a rush, and her adventure is set in motion.
In a flash she is transported to a magical place with talking flowers, rapping twins who believe that they are the world’s next Jack Parow. An overly dramatic Cheshire Cat (followed by a litter of kittens who dance and sing) and then, of course, the Queen of Hearts. Alice soon realises that this queen will steal your heart… and put it in a jar.
A mystical caterpillar sends Alice on a quest to discover courage, intelligence and heart. Soon she is joined by Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman (who doesn’t enjoy a good merging of stories!) and this ragtag team travels across Wonderland to save not only Dorothy, but also the whole of Wonderland.
The production was performed to large audiences over four nights and received rave reviews.
