St Andrew’s School – National Stars awarded for Sport

St Andrew’s School. St Andrew’s School, Bloemfontein, awarded their National Stars. In a bumper year for sport, six Honours Blazers were awarded at the Sports Awards this year as well as a new award – the Board Medal.

Jared Crossman

Jarryd, (Grade 12) captained the School’s Athletics Team. He also competed in the Free State Championship, obtaining first place in both the 100m and 200m. Jarryd received the Victor Ludorum Gould Duminy Cup and the Frank French Cup as the Open 100m winner.

Liam Doherty

Liam, (Grade 12) was selected to represent Ireland at the Cricket Under 19 World Cup Tournament held in India this year. He also played First XI Hockey (Full Colours) and First XV Rugby (Full Colours). He was awarded the La Mude Trophy for Bowling and the Coetzee Floating Trophy for Best all round Cricketer. Liam also received the Len Tuckett Trophy for Sportsman of the Year. Furthermore he shared the Fred S Webber Prize for the Best Sporting Achievement. Liam has also represented the Knights at the Cricket South Africa Cubs’ Week. He was also selected for the Free State Under 19 team in 2021 and 2022.

Andro Louw

Andro, (Grade 12) competed in the South African Schools’ Championships. He was ranked 2nd in 50m Breaststroke, 1st in 100m Breaststroke, 1st in 200m Breaststroke, 2nd in the 200m Individual Medley and participated in the finals at the Senior Nationals.  Andro captained the Saints’ Swimming team this year, received the John Bridger Cup for the Swimming Victor Ludorum and shared the Fred S Webber Prize for Best Sporting Achievement.

Joe Meyer

Joe, (Grade 12) was selected as captain of the South African Schools’ Colts Team and was awarded the Free State Under 19 Cricketer of the Year in 2021. He also captained this team as well as the school’s First XI this year and attained 50 caps. He also played First Team Golf, was awarded Motheo Colours for Under 18 Cricket and captained the Western Legends’ team at the Cricket South Africa Cubs’ Week.

Lebohang Lethola

Lebohang, (Grade 12) was selected for the South African Under 18B Hockey Team. He also played Under 18 Southern Free State and captained the First XI Team Hockey and Soccer teams this year. Lebohang was awarded the Dave Warner Memorial Trophy for the Best Hockey Player.

Jordan Wilkinson

Jordan, (Grade 11) has excelled at Squash this year, being selected for the South African World Junior Squad, and is ranked sixth in South African Schools’ rankings. He has played First Team Squash for the school this year and was selected for the Under 19 Southern Free State and Free State Squash. He also received the Squash Player of the Year award.

Jaco Jordaan

Jaco, (Grade 12) was selected for the South African Under 20 Fencing Team which competed at the Commonwealth Games. He received a Board Medal for his achievements. Jaco also shared the Fred S Webber Prize for the Best Sporting Achievement.
