World Robotics Olympiad. Curro Aurora educator, Peet Steyn, is on his way to Germany for the World Robotics Olympiad.
Peet has been introduced to Robotics as a subject in 2015. It happened when he started teaching at Curro Heuwelkruin. At that point Robotics was taught by a colleague, Mr Robert Marriott. Mr Marriott was an excellent teacher and he is also a specialist in this field. Peet Steyn was fortunate to have learned so much from him. Computer Sciences was one of Mr Steyn’s main focus subjects at university and he felt drawn to the subject content. The problem-solving skills, coupled with the coding and building skills interested him a lot. He knew at that point that this is the subject he wanted to teach.
Information Technology at Curro Aurora
Three years later the bright lights of the city called him to Johannesburg. He was appointed to teach Information Technology at Curro Aurora. He thoroughly enjoyed the subject. When the opportunity presented itself to move to a new position where he could teach Information Technology and Robotics, he knew that he could not let this opportunity slip by. Under the guidance of Mr Edwin Astle, his subject head, Mr Steyn grew and became more proficient in the subject. This was where things changed and he was asked to participate as a Provincial judge for the Gauteng South WRO competition. Mr Steyn was also invited to be a Nationals Judge in 2019 at the Dome where the competition was part of the rAge Expo.
In 2020 Covid hit, and everything came to a standstill and all competitions came to a halt. During Covid Mr Steyn participated as a judge at the 2021 WRO 2020-X Offline – Online – Live Streamed, in Canada. In 2022, after Covid, the competition resumed. After participating as a judge in the Provincials and Nationals WRO competition, he was asked to participate as a judge at the 2022 WRO competition. This is to be held in Dortmund, Germany. This is also a great opportunity to learn form the best in the world.
