Land Service – The grade 8 Land Service members had a fun filled first High School Land Service camp this past Thursday. They pitched their tents on the school ground. There were two teams the blue and yellow. The most exciting activity was the “Potjiekos” competition. Each team received ingredients and under the guidance of mister Etienne they cooked a delicious dinner. The learners had to bring decorations from home without knowing in which group they would be. They judged them on the food, entertainment and team work. Based on the above criteria the Blue team won the activity.

Values of a Land Service

They learned about the values of Land Service and listened to a gospel message delivered by Wium Smit, our Land service Committee chair person. The Bible verse of John 3:16 touched a lot of hearts as it was Easter weekend and they had a lot to be thankful for. The Land Service committee guided the Arts and crafts. They were Wium Smit, Benathi Beje, Anica Pretorius, Marnus Snyman, Cody Joubert, Thato Parkies and Monique Weitzs. The River rocks were creatively decorated with the words of John 3:16. As a reminder of one of the values of Land Service is Love for God.

“Monkey Dance”

Daar is baie Landsdiensliedjies gesing. Landsdienslede het vet pret gehad deur die “Monkey dance” te doen. Die Landsdieners se liefde vir hul medemens is deur ‘n skattejag getoets. Hulle het besef dat spanwerk en ondersteuning die enigste manier is om die aktiwiteitte te wen. Die blou span het weereens met die title weggestap en was onder leiding van Lynn-Zay Jansen en Elyon Moolman.

Die geelspan het wel aan die einde van die aand breëbors weggestap met die titel van die beste Lantern bekruipers. Hierdie Landsdieners het gesien die onderwysers is te op en wakker en het besluit om ‘n trekkerband as hulpmiddel in te span.

Die kamp is rondom ‘n kampvuur afgesluit met gebraaide, of is dit nou gebrande malvalekkers tussen twee mariebeskuitjies, die bekende “smores”.
