The Yearly Grey College Music Festival
Music Festival 2021. ‘Old-fashioned Grey’tness’ is the exciting theme for this year’s Nedbank Grey College Music Festival. The yearly Grey College Music Festival is in its ‘sweet 16’ shoes this year and the school celebrated its 166th birthday on 13 October.
With Covid-19 still being a reality in 2021, the Cultural Department of Grey College once again had to adapt the music festival accordingly. Therefore a professionally packed music festival will be available to download online during November. The audience will have a wonderful trip down memory lane. Alternatively they might have a first-time experience of the school, as all the items on the programme are recorded on the Grey College campus. This year, the two famous artists who will be performing with the boys are none other than Demi Lee Moore and Emo Adams.
Demi Lee Moore
With her angel voice that takes you on an emotional race, Demi Lee Moore will certainly steal the hearts of the Grey boys and Grey community during this year’s festival. She loves soulful songs that tell stories.
Country music lovers will especially love her renditions of old favourites when she adds her golden voice and flair to the mix. Combined with the talents for our Grey boys and Emo Adams, this year will be one for the books
Emo Adams
Over the past 30 years Emo Adams has established himself as an influential and significant singer. Apart from singing, he is a music and TV producer, actor and presenter within the South African entertainment industry. Emo has won numerous awards, including a Tempo Award and ATKV Mediaveertjie for Best Television presenter. He also received the award for Best Show Producer at the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) for three years in a row. He entertains people with his unique brand of comedy and overall showmanship. Whether he is performing at a festival, concert or a corporate event, audiences are never disappointed by his dynamic, diverse delivery and we can’t wait to host him at Grey College.
Celebrating the Grey’tness of the boys
‘Grey will be celebrating the Grey’tness of their boys who stand up and face the battle every day, with a wonderful old-fashioned flair. Ms Brenda Myburgh decided to allow the boys to feel that they are part of an experience this year. The boys had very few opportunities in all areas of their lives to participate in. Some of the boys will experience the mass choir for the first time ever since they have joined the secondary school,’ says Ms Myburgh, Head of Culture. Teachers had to work with students under very challenging circumstances, as it is difficult to work with music learners online.
The Sponsors
The school salutes and celebrate what they managed to accomplish in the small amount of time. Obviously finances in a time like this can be very challenging. They were super excited when Nedbank came in as the main sponsor and NWU as subsponsor for this project. The Piek group sponsored the staging for the recordings. Without these partners, this magnificent project would not have been possible. The school is collaborating with Rooistoel Productions and Arco Musica for a professional production. Grey College is grateful for their sponsorships as well. Grey invite everyone to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime music festival happening on their campus. Support the boys and staff for all the hard work that went into this production. Get your link when the ‘Old Fashioned Grey’tness’ show is professionally packaged and launched.
Celebrating Grey’tness and Staff
‘Not only are they, as a school, celebrating the Grey’tness of their boys this year, but certainly also the Grey’tness of the staff. Both the staff and boys, once again, had to deal with all the challenges of yet another year affected by the invisible intruder named Covid-19. They must be commended on the spirit and ‘Grey guts’ shown in doing so,’ says Mr Deon Scheepers, principal of Grey College. He further mentions: “A special congratulatory word to the Cultural Department of Grey College Secondary, and specifically to Mrs Brenda Myburgh and her team who makes this unique event possible.”
“Thank you to the two wonderful artists, Demi Lee Moore and Emo Adams. They were willing to accommodate Grey this year in their diaries after the Covid-19 disappointment in 2020. ”Without the support and financial sponsorship, this grand occasion would not be possible. Thank you for the vision and that everyone is part of old-fashioned relationships and personal care. All of this despite having to embrace a modern concept of a virtual performance,” he says.
“Enjoy this unique opportunity.
“Sit back, relax and celebrate the wonderful talents of the boys and the artists in old-fashioned Grey’tness,” says Mr Scheepers.
