Insider SA. Great excitement reigned at Curro Delft recently when the popular SABC TV show, Insider SA, spent some time at the school. They film an insert on ‘a day in the life of’ Hopolang Lekhetha, one of the school’s mathematics teachers.
Lekhetha is one of many local teachers who participated in the Capitec Foundation’s Maths Tutoring Programme. It is an initiative that aims to improve maths performance to enable access to STEM related careers beyond high school for South Africa’s youth.
Although the programme currently has over 750 learners, the programme also benefits tutors and teachers, such as Lekhetha. The reason to better equip themselves for the classroom to deliver lessons that sustain hundreds of youth.
The insert, that aired on Monday, 4 October at 17:30 on SABC 3 allowed Lekhetha to elaborate on how the Capitec Maths Programme has helped him achieve his dreams to inspire Curro Delft learners to stay motivated and intrigued by maths. “In life, maths is unavoidable. Imagine a world without numbers – so why shy-away from it at a young age?” notes Lekhetha.
Curro Delft is a technology-rich school. It prepares learners for the fourth industrial revolution. It focus on a project-based learning programme that emphasises Science, Mathematics, Robotics and Coding. According to Phil Snyman, Executive Head at Curro Delft, “Lekhetha’s excitement and enthusiastic teaching approach is contagious. Our learners love him. It’s an absolute pleasure knowing that his energetic approach has a positive influence on how our learners perceive mathematics. We are extremely proud of his achievements.”
“There is no such thing as boring mathematics, go on and explore,” enthuses Lekhetha.
