Schools That Rock chat to Michaela Licen

Schools That Rock asked Michaela Licen Deputy Head Girl of Treverton College a few questions.

Question: What do you look forward to most when the 2021 school year starts?  The thing that I look forward to most at the start of a new year would have to be getting to start afresh with all the new pupils. Getting to know them and watching/participating in all the new pupils events as I really feel like this just sets a good excited tone for everyone for the whole year.

Question: Are there any changes or adjustments you would like to see happen at Treverton College? I would really just like the school aura as a whole to become more unified and excited about the things that happen at school ( i understand that this is a bit difficult with there being no sport or interhouse events right now) but in the future when we can, do more things that aren’t serious interhouse events. Like including more things like interhouse volleyball, tug of war, ping pong, arm wrestling. Just events that are new and could possibly lift house spirits again.

Question: If you had to make a statement to convince someone that Teverton is the right choice, what would that statement be?
Treverton is a place that is unique and not like any other school. It is a place where all your peers and even sometimes teachers become like a second family to you. You are seen for more as just someone that has to get through school, but rather as a human being and someone that you could build a relationship with. Everyone that comes to Treverton receives a warm welcome and everyone has a place in a special school like this.

Question: Who would you consider to be your role model at Treverton?  My role model would most probably be Mrs Haug, just because I feel like being in a dorm with her on a more personal level tends to let me see her as more of a role model and mother/sister figure rather than just a staff member. Mr Balie would also be a role model to me as I admire his integrity and honesty, and he is just a humble person.

Question: Which sport activity offered at Treverton is your favourite? Hockey would definitely be my favourite, the fact that the boys also do the same sport really unifies the whole school and watching hockey matches is just something that is very enjoyable.

Question: What is your favourite meal?  Chicken wraps.

Question: Which career choices are you considering after school?  I have not fully decided what I want to do after school, so I will either take a gap year or study psychology or psychiatry.

Question: Which university do you want to attend next year? Tuks or possibly a university overseas.

Question: Do you have a message for your fellow pupils for 2021?  Enjoy yourself while you are at school, it isn’t actually that bad. Make sure you keep your real friends close and don’t take the opportunities you are given for granted. Focus on school, but make sure that you also make time to develop relationships and have fun because school is about making memories!
