Kaylan Govender (Grade 8) leaves for Slovenia tomorrow to swim a 5 km race in Lake Bled.
Lake Bled is a lake in the Julian Alps of the Upper Carniolan region of north-western Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a tourist destination. The lake is 35 km from Ljubljana International Airport and 55 km from the capital city, Ljubljana.
Bled Swimming Challenge is the biggest Open Water event in Slovenia. The competition is a part of Austria Open Water Cup and it is supported by Slovenian Swimming Association. The event has professional and recreational nature.
Everybody can take part in it – from professional and recreational swimmers to families which like to spend their free time actively.
The race takes place in the western part of Lake Bled. The start and the finish are in Mala Zaka. The course has a shape of an incorrect rectangle and it leads you to the island and back.
It is marked with 4 buoys. To finish the marathon successfully, participants have to swim 4 laps counter clockwise within the limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Kaylen started swimming open water events from the age of 8 years.
His first open water event was the Midmar Mile.
