Glenwood High School held their annual Form V Leadership Course at TO Strand in Port Edward from 23 to 25 February. The Form V Leadership Course is the most prestigious leadership course offered to the Glenwood learners. It is a tough course that tests the learners mentally and physically. The course offers the ideal opportunity for learners learn about themselves.

90 boys, 10 staff and 7 prefects met on the morning of the 23rd of February on the multi-purpose turf at Frere Crescent gate where they were placed on buses to transport them to the camp. The boys travelled for 2 hours to Trafalgar Beach where they were introduced to 2 fictional “team members” who would be joining them on camp.

The first task required the boys to navigate various terrains from Trafalgar Beach to TO Strand Beach. Mention must be made of the prefects and staff that completed the walk with the groups in order to ensure the safety of the boys. The walk is indeed a challenging task and tested the boys’ patience.

The inclement weather teased us with a threat of rain on Saturday but, instead, we were blessed with good weather for the day’s activities. 14 more boys and 2 more prefects joined the camping party before breakfast, after fulfilling other responsibilities the night before. Day two required the boys to hike in and around TO Strand to various bases where they completed tasks that tested the boys’ physical, mental, communicative as well as problem solving skills.

Sunday the famous “Beach Olympics” took place. The boys broke camp at 10h00 and departed home.
