Camps Bay Primary School pupils excel in Maths Competition

Camps Bay Primary School pupils did incredibly well in this year’s Horizon Maths Competition. Learners from Grades 5, 6 and 7 are illegible to participate – all pupils write the same paper.

This year, 73 700 pupils from 416 schools in South Africa participated and in the Western Cape there were 15 453 pupils from 90 schools in the first round of the competition and 2062 pupils from 78 schools who qualified for the second round.

The top 170 pupils from 41 schools were invited to attend a special prize giving last weekend. Camps Bay Primary was well represented in the top 170 with 6 pupils. Other schools from the area with pupils in the top 170 were Herzlia Middle School with 10 pupils, Jan van Riebeeck with 9, Herzlia Wiezmann with 2, Kronendal with 2 and Llandudno with 1 pupil.

Camps Bay Primary School’s Top Performing pupil was Noah Michael who placed 29th in the competition for which he received a bronze medal, as well as medal for the Top Achieving Pupil in Camps Bay Primary School.

Other pupils who excelled in the Competition were:

James Heather-Clark in Grade 7 in 61st place,
Jeremy Liddle in Grade 5 in 78th place,
Leila Metz in Grade 6 in 84th place,
Jacqueline Maldon in Grade 6 in 85th place, and
Sefton Mansfield-Scaddon in Grade 7 in 121st place.
