Buffalo & Selborne Regattas – Rondebosch Boys’ High outstanding

Buffalo & Selborne Regattas. Rondebosch Boys’ High School Rowing Report.

From Thursday, 5 February to Saturday, 7 February, the Rondebosch Boys’ High School Rowing Club competed at the Buffalo and Selborne Regattas on the Buffalo River in East London.

The Buffalo Regatta, held over two days, featured traditional race distances of 1000m for U15 crews and 2000m for U16 and U19 crews. The Selborne Regatta followed as a sprint event, raced over 500m across all age groups.

Historic Achievements

Rondebosch took a squad of 29 boys and delivered outstanding performances. At the Buffalo Regatta, the club secured a bronze in the U16 coxed four, and medals in the 1st double, 1st four, and 1st eight. Most notably, the club made history by winning gold in all three premier 1st team categories—the 1st pair, 1st coxed four, and 1st eight. This was the first time Rondebosch had ever won these events, having previously come close with second and third places. Achieving all three victories on the same day marked a milestone moment for the club.

Rondebosch is immensely proud of the determination and resilience shown by the boys in challenging conditions. Their success reflects both grit and teamwork, and we wish them well as they prepare for the South African Rowing Championships in Pretoria this March.
