St George’s T20 tournament. The Kingswood 1st XI entered the final day of the St George’s T20 tournament in Zimbabwe with a clear mission: win all three matches to secure a place in the Plate Section final. Rising to the challenge, the team delivered a day of thrilling cricket and commendable performances.
🏏 Match 1: vs Christian Brothers College (Bulawayo)
Kingswood batted first and posted a modest total of 136 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In response, CBC struggled against Kingswood’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 97. Result: Kingswood won by 39 runs.
🏆 Plate Semi-Final: vs Peterhouse
Peterhouse took the crease first and managed 118/7 in their 20 overs. Kingswood’s bowlers were outstanding, with Josh Loon (4/16) and Daniel Jakins (3/13) leading the charge. In reply, Kingswood’s batters fought hard but were kept in check by Peterhouse’s tight bowling and sharp fielding. Josh Loon anchored the innings with a well-played 52, guiding Kingswood to 118/8—tying the scores after 20 overs. The match proceeded to a super over. Kingswood batted first and scored 10 runs. Peterhouse, under pressure, managed only 2/2. Result: Kingswood won via the super over.
🥇 Plate Final: vs St Andrew’s College 2nd XI
Kingswood won the toss and elected to bat. On a challenging wicket, the batters showed great composure, reaching an impressive 184/4 in 20 overs. Chris Zimmerman (50*), Patrick Mouton (31), and David Loudon (28) contributed crucial runs, with Zimmerman finishing strongly. St Andrew’s began their chase confidently, keeping the scoreboard ticking and applying pressure. However, Kingswood’s bowlers held their nerve. Patrick Mouton’s spell of 3/29 proved pivotal, shifting momentum back in Kingswood’s favour. Despite a valiant 66 off 53 balls from Benjamin Scharges, St Andrew’s fell short, ending on 164/6. Result: Kingswood won by 20 runs.
The Kingswood cricketers had a memorable tour, enjoying competitive cricket, the warm hospitality of St George’s College, and the experience of playing in Zimbabwe. The team returned home, ready to begin the new term with pride and momentum.
