Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School Grade 11 learner, Damini Parshutam (16), swam her first Midmar 8 Mile recently raising R24 000 for Pink Drive. Damini has participated in the Midmar Mile six times but wanted to challenge herself this year and signed up for the 8 Mile swim.
“I wanted to do something for a good cause. The ladies at the Pink Drive are so empowering and listening to their stories always amazes me so I wanted to take on the challenge and doing for a cause made it even more worth it,” she said.
She started her fundraising in November last year and managed to raise the required R10 000 in a week. “I am so thankful to all my family and friends who supported me during this challenge. I knew I was ready for it and by the time the last mile came I was filled with excitement and adrenaline. I am so glad I was able to be a part of the 8 Mile club and encourage anyone who can do it to give it a try,” Damini said.
