Two surfers from Camps Bay High School delivered standout performances at the Sea Harvest Junior Open, held at Dairy Beach in Durban on 17 and 18 May. The competition was part of Surfing South Africa’s Junior Series. It drew some of the country’s top young surfers. The Camps Bay High School duo made a big impact on the podium.

Grade 9 learner Ben Esterhuyse dominated the U16 division, taking first place, and went on to secure second place in the highly competitive U18 category. His classmate, Adam Faclier, also impressed in the U16 final, finishing in third place.

Camps Bay High School’s Head of Sport, Ms Busi Ngcwama, praised both athletes for their performances.: “We are incredibly proud of Ben and Adam. Their results at such a high-level event speak volumes about their dedication and talent. Having two learners from our school finish on the podium at a national competition is a rare and special achievement,” she said.

The Sea Harvest Junior Open is one of several key contests on the junior surf calendar. It offer valuable ranking points and experience for emerging surfers. For Esterhuyse and Faclier, it was not just about medals. It was also a chance to test themselves against South Africa’s best — and they rose to the challenge.

With the season still underway, both surfers are looking to build on their success and continue representing Camps Bay High School and the Western Cape with pride.
