Schools Cricket. On Saturday, 24 February, the cricket season came to an end and what a season it was for Nico Malan High School, Humansdorp!
The U/14A team showed a lot of promise and had great wins against Alexander Road and Framesby High School! Estian van Staden was the star player without a doubt as he scored 2 centuries and averaged 94 runs!
Nico Malan High School’s U15A team started off slowly but great wins in their last two matches. It was against Woodridge College and Daniel Pienaar Technical High School. These two showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the next cricket season.
The 2nd team had a brilliant season winning 5 of their 7 matches, including victories against the likes of Framesby, Victoria Park and Woodridge. The spirit, dedication and sportsmanship was evident in this team.
The 1st team had a good preparation tour before the school opened in 2024. This helped them to win 5 of their 7 league matches this season. The team was brilliantly led by captain and Head Boy Jean Joubert. Dawid Vermaak was the standout performer. He averaged 72 runs and scored 4 half centuries in his 6 innings.
The Highlight of the season was the match against Woodridge College
The Nico Malan boys showed great determination and courage and managed to beat Woodridge with the last ball of the match. It will go down as one of the great upsets in Nico Malan cricket.
