School Hockey Festivals. Well done to Kingswood College’ 1st X1 Hockey teams who competed over the past weekend at the School Hockey Festivals.
The Kingswood College, Makhanda, (Grahamstown) 1st XI Girls Hockey Team participated in an exhilarating Greg Beling Hockey Festival. The team showcased their strength as a unit and sportsmanship throughout the event. In their match against Merrifield, the team displayed outstanding determination and skill. They secured a hard-fought victory with a score line of 1-0. Against Linden High School, from the outset, Kingswood asserted control over the game, commanding possession and dictating the pace of play. Linden showed some resilience in defence as Kingswood could not convert any of our opportunities. The match was draw at 0-0. The match against Witteberg proved to be another closely contested affair, culminating in a 1-1 draw as both teams showcased their competitive spirit. Despite a valiant effort against Sasolburg, the team experienced a narrow defeat with a final score of 0-1. Overall, the 1st XI Girls Hockey Team exhibited commendable team spirit and commitment.
Tony Godding Hockey Festival
The 1st XI Boys Hockey Team participated in the Tony Godding Hockey Festival. The boys displayed commendable strength in structure and in attacking situations. Kingswood faced Merrifield on Friday. The game was teamed with speed on attack and penalty corner dominance which earned Kingwood a good 4-0 win. On day 2, Kingswood played against Linden and Witteberg High School. Both games were competitive with many opportunities going Kingswood’s way. The boys managed to seal off 1-0 wins. Kingswood matched up against Queens College on Sunday morning in an electrifying battle. Kingswood took an early lead but unfortunately allowed Queens back into the game with 2 goals. Despite setbacks, they fought back in true Kingswood fashion and scored a penalty corner in the last 3 minutes to end the game at level pegs, 2-2.
