Young martial artist Robert Rijkheer, a learner at Grey College Primary in Bloemfontein, made his school and province proud with a stellar performance at the prestigious SA Open Karate Championships held in Durban on 20 and 21 June.
Robert displayed exceptional talent and discipline as he clinched a gold medal in Kata, showcasing his precision and technique, and followed it up with a silver medal in Kumite, demonstrating his strength and strategic combat skills. His performance stood out among competitors from across the country, confirming his status as one of South Africa’s rising stars in the sport.
Crowning his success, Robert was awarded the coveted Protea Colours for 2024/2025—a remarkable achievement that represents national recognition and is reserved for athletes who compete at the highest level.
