SA National Schools Debating. Lwandile Nduku, Grade 10 learner of Glenwood High School in Durban, showcased his debating prowess. He participated at the South African National Schools Debating Competition 2023. It was held at the Sol Plaatjie University in Kimberly, Northern Cape, from December 14 to 19. Lwandile’s team secured the eleventh position and proceeded to the Plate Finals. There they faced a tough match against the Western Cape team.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Lwandile was awarded half colours by the South African Schools Debating Board. He earned a spot on the provincial team three consecutive times. Additionally, he received the second-best reply speaker in the country award as well as a silver medal for his team’s commendable journey to the Plate Finals in the senior category.
Adding to his achievements, Lwandile had the privilege of participating in a book launch at the University of Pretoria on December 9, 2023. The book, titled “Social Justice Stories: Journeys to Justice,” was launched by the South African Schools Debating Board and the Centre for Sexuality and Gender. Lwandile’s entry, titled “To My Brother in the Glass Closet,” was one of the 35 featured stories from across South Africa.
