Professor Jansen is currently a distinguished professor of education at Stellenbosch University. He is also the president of the Academy of Science of South Africa. He is known for his thought-provoking views on education, race, and social justice.

He urged the Camps Bay High School learners to adopt empathy, considering multiple viewpoints and prioritising humanity over politics. He said that education should teach individuals to serve others and align their values accordingly. Professor Jansen also highlighted qualities such as integrity, compassion and respect for others. This is crucial for societal improvement.
