Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School Peer Counsellors chose the empowerment of women as their 2017 theme for the annual Peer Counsellors Awareness Week at the school and hosted various activities throughout the week to highlight gender equality and women’s rights in society. The group hosted movie nights, arts and crafts, a heated debate entitled “I Would Rather be a Man Than a Woman” and a flashmob. The keynote address highlighted the importance of empowering women without detracting from the role of men in our society. The 2017 Peer Counsellors at GHS are seen with posters they made during one of the craft activities this week.
