New Head of Hockey – Curro Durbanville scores big

New Head of Hockey.

Leading independent school group, Curro Holdings is thrilled to announce the appointment of Bianca van Reenen as the new Head of Hockey at Curro Durbanville High School, effective January 2024.

Van Reenen, a Cape Town native and keen sports enthusiast, brings a wealth of experience and passion for the sport. She positions her as an ideal leader to take the school’s hockey programme to new heights. Her background as a player, a qualified hockey coach and her professional credentials speak for themselves. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Foundation Phase from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

Her dedication to the sport is evident in her past pursuits. She already successfully coached teams at Western Province Hockey and Milnerton Hockey Club. She also coached Panorama Primary School, and Edgemead High School.  Bianca is also no stranger to Curro Durbanville. She has coached the girls first team for half a season and worked with some of the current under 16 girls teams.

Growth of Hockey

“I am excited to be a part of the growth of Hockey at Curro Durbanville. It excites me to be able to help build the foundation for hockey at the school and continue working with the girls. The staff has been so welcoming and has made me feel a part of the wolfpack already. They know I am extremely passionate about hockey. I also strongly believe that I can make a real difference in improving the sport at the school,” she said about her new role.

Ms Van Reenen has several visions for the school’s hockey programme. She wants to create depth in both the girls’ and boys’ sides. This includes B and C teams across all age groups for new players or those who don’t feel comfortable at a competitive level. She also wants to build a strong foundation. It will help the girls team get back into the Grand Challenge (GC) league. Bianca also wants to ensure the sport is inclusive and a safe space for all who want to be a part of it.

Commenting on the new appointment, Riaan Stroebel, the Executive Head of Curro Durbanville High School also expressed his enthusiasm: “Over and above her extensive hockey CV and experience as a player and coach, Bianca is driven, passionate and wants to make a career out of hockey. Her values are aligned with those of our school and community. We are excited about the fresh energy and expertise that she brings. I know everyone at our school is looking forward to a promising future for our hockey teams under Bianca’s expert leadership.”
