Karting Nationals. Rafe Tayler is a Grade 12 learner at Camps Bay High School. He piloted his CRG DD2 kart to an impressive top-ten finish in last Saturday’s round of the Karting Nationals held at Killarney Race Track.
A packed schedule squeezed in morning practice, qualifying, and three races into a single day. Following a controversial weight penalty, Rafe started Race 1 at the back of the grid. Even so he quickly overcame a series of back markers to move up to the midfield. With a total of 21 DD2 karts, racing was highly competitive. At the end of Race 2, fifth, sixth and seventh positions were separated by just three one-hundredths of a second!
At the end of the day when the points were tallied up, Rafe came 7th overall. This is a highly creditable performance in only his second ever appearance at the Nationals.
